ARENA — Advanced Design & Technology Lab opens in 2022 to host R&D in robotic manufacturing, additive manufacturing and cyber-physical interaction systems in the areas of architecture, construction and product design. Currently ARENA has four robotic arms installed — a cell equipped with two Kuka KR120 and a linear axis of 6m, dedicated to 3D concrete printing (3DCP) and frame structures. A Kuka KR10 to explore lightweight manufacturing tools and UR103 dedicated to explore cyber-physical interaction systems. The robots are also equipped with tools for milling, hot wire cutting and WASP CFS for 3D printing in ceramics, biopolymers and earth-based materials. A Kuka KR180 equipped with a pellet extrusion system with continuous feeding, an equipment from IPC and DONE Lab – Advanced Manufacturing of Products and Tools.
Additive Manufacturing
ARENA is equipped with systems for extrusion-based AM, with continuous material feeding for concrete, earth, ceramics and biopolymers.
Robotics in Construction
ARENA explores robotic fabrication for construction, from automated assembly to the production of complex building components.
CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS
ARENA provides an environment for research into connections between digital systems and physical processes through robotics, sensing and human–robot interaction.
