On 3rd June, UMinho and Grupo Casais launched the first Non-Academic Chair. This is a pioneering project in Portugal that focuses on areas such as robotics, additive manufacturing (3D printing in concrete), modularisation, prefabrication and integration with BIM models – essential pillars for more industrialised, efficient and circular construction. This research, ‘Construction in the Digital Age’, is funded by the FCT-Tenure programme of the Foundation for Science and Technology, and comes at a time of profound transformation in the architecture, engineering and construction sectors. The chair represents an investment by Grupo Casais and a strategic opportunity for ACTech Hub, Lab2PT and EAAD, with the knowledge generated being applied to the development of innovative construction solutions that increase competitiveness in the national and international markets.
